What Does the Bookworm Say? Upcoming Film and Television Adaptations

Hi and welcome to What Does the Bookworm Say?, a feature where I discuss bookish topics with my friends at The Reader’s Antidote, Books Unbound and The Windy Pages. Each week, we will discuss a new bookish topic. This week’s topic is about upcoming book adaptations. This year looks like it’s going to be a really interesting year for book to film/tv adaptations. Adaptations are always a mixed bag for me because while I love to see my favorite books come to life, it’s a bit disheartening when the film or television version isn’t as good (in my opinion) as the book. But I am always willing to give… Read more »

First Look: Orphan Black Season 3

First Look: Orphan Black Season 3

Ooh yes! BBC just released a scene from Season 3 of Orphan Black which starts again on April 18. I love this show so much and cannot wait for it to come back. This scene is super creepy and reminds me of how awesome Tatiana Maslany is. Who else is excited about Season 3?

Trailer: The DUFF

Trailer: The DUFF

Have you guys seen the new trailer for The DUFF, which is based on the YA novel by Kody Keplinger? I read The DUFF a couple of years ago and really liked it. I have some mixed feelings about the movie though. On one hand, it looks like the changed to story to be some sort of makeover movie, which is different than the book. On the other hand, it looks like a really funny high school comedy and I like Mae Whitman. I will just have to try to remember that the book and movie are totally separate entities… Read more »

New Trailer: The Avengers

New Trailer: The Avengers

I’ve been meaning to post this trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron a couple of weeks now but have only just now managed to do it. I don’t have much to say about it. I love a good super hero movie no doubt I will be seeing this when it comes out. It definitely looks darker than the last Avengers film but sequels tend to do that. It’s like now it’s time to get serious. :)

Trailer: Pan

Trailer: Pan

I recently saw the new trailer for Pan when I was out seeing Night at the Museum 3 (which was cute). I had not really heard anything about this new version of the classic Peter Pan fairy tale and was quite impressed with the trailer. It looks like it is going to be dark, epic and magical – all things I love. It also has Hugh Jackman, which is always a win for me. Anyone else excited about Pan?

Movie Trailer: The Little Prince

Movie Trailer: The Little Prince

You know I can’t resist a good animated film and the trailer for The Little Prince looks really promising. I like the mixed media feel with the different animation styles. I haven’t read this book in ages and, seeing this trailer makes me want to re-read it. Unfortunately it will be almost a full year before the movie is released. Hopefully there will be some new trailers and footage released in the meantime. I think this looks very promising and I am looking forward to it. Anyone else out there a fan of The Little Prince?

Trailer: Cinderella

Trailer: Cinderella

Disney just released the first trailer for their upcoming live action adaptation of Cinderella. What do you guys think? Personally, while I think this looks great visually (love those costumes!), I don’t see anything here that would really compel me to see the film. I love a good fairy tale but this doesn’t seem to tread any new or innovative ground. Cate Blanchett is a draw and it’s directed by Kenneth Branaugh so there’s a good chance I’ll probably go see it at some point despite my ho-hum response to this trailer. I just want to manage my expectations. Watching… Read more »

Audiobook Review: As You Wish by Cary Elwes

Audiobook Review: As You Wish by Cary Elwes

Unlike a lot of my friends, I did not watch The Princess Bride growing up and only saw it for the first time when I was in college. Of course, I had heard of the film but for whatever reason, had never managed to see it until then. I knew that it was a much beloved classic. My friends were quite appalled that I had never seen it and so I made a vow to finally watch it and see what all the fuss was about. Now, watching something as loved as The Princess Bride can be a little intimidating for the first time viewer. I was worried that the film would seem dated or that maybe I just wouldn’t “get” the humor. There was the chance that my expectations were totally skewed and that, as a result, the film would fail to live up to the hype.

Teaser Trailer: Insurgent

Teaser Trailer: Insurgent

The teaser trailer for Insurgent came out last week. Since this is just a teaser, we don’t really get to see much. And is it just me do the effects look kind of cheesy? Maybe my eyes are just being weird but some of the jumping parts looked off. I was not a huge fan of this book but I enjoyed the Divergent movie much more than the book, either and I am hoping that the film version of this one is also more to my taste than the book. Are you guys looking forward to this one? I hope… Read more »

Trailer: Chappie

Trailer: Chappie

I just saw the trailer to Chappie the other day when I went to see Interstellar. I admit that I did not know anything about this film except that Hugh Jackman was in it. The trailer definitely piqued my interest though.  The idea of what does it mean to be human has always interested me and I think this one might be good. It’s directed by the same person who did District 9, which I really liked.
