Hi and welcome to What Does the Bookworm Say?, a feature where I discuss bookish topics with my friends at The Reader’s AntidoteBooks Unbound and The Windy Pages. Each week, we will discuss a new bookish topic. This week’s topic is what book would you like to see as a movie or TV show?

I’ve really been enjoying the comic book series Alex + Ada written by Jonathan Luna and illustrated by Sarah Vaughn. The series ended really recently and all of the issues are collected into 3 trade paperbacks right now, so you don’t have to wait to read it all. It’s a story set in the near future where artificial intelligence is part of every day life. AI is tightly controlled however, after an artificially intelligent human-like robot goes on a violent rampage. The AI robots have been limited to certain functions. A young man, depressed over a recent breakup, is given a companion doll by his grandmother. David ends up getting drawn into a secret world that has him questioning what it really means to be human.

This is a really smart series with fantastic sci-fi elements. I think this would work better as a TV mini-series rather than a movie. There’s a lot going on in it and I don’t know if they could really fit it all one film. It’s just really well written and the themes are really universal even though it’s about artificial intelligence. It’s smart and compelling but also has a lot of action and intrigue. I think it would have a lot of crossover appeal.

So if I had a vote, I’d cast it for Alex + Ada to hit the small screen, preferably on a cable network. If you haven’t read this series yet, I would highly recommend it.

Don’t forget to check out The Reader’s AntidoteBooks Unbound and The Windy Pages to see what their answers are to today’s question.
