Uncovered (134): Rook

Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover? While it’s not the only factor in picking up a book, a pretty cover doesn’t hurt. Uncovered is a weekly post where I show some cover love. Hope you enjoy!

Happy Friday, all! It’s finally starting to get a little cooler here in Southern California, and I have been filled with the urge to snuggle on the couch with a good book. I hope to have some free time this weekend to do just that. :) This week’s featured cover is Rook by Sharon Cameron. I really love the imagery here, with the crumbling city and Eiffel Tower in the background. The fog/mist gives everything a slightly mysterious air and it makes me think that something bad has happened to this world. I also like the simple color palette with the somber shades used for most of the image, which makes the red accents stand out even more. The synopsis also mentions a red tipped feather and it’s cool that it made it onto the cover.  I didn’t know anything about this book until I stumbled across the cover recently. However, reading the synopsis, it sounds like it could be really good. The setting, at least, promises something unique.

History has a way of repeating itself. In the Sunken City that was once Paris, all who oppose the new revolution are being put to the blade. Except for those who disappear from their prison cells, a red-tipped rook feather left in their place. Is the mysterious Red Rook a savior of the innocent or a criminal?

Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy’s arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.

As the Red Rook grows bolder and the stakes grow higher, Sophia and René find themselves locked in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.

Daring intrigue, delicious romance, and spine-tingling suspense fill the pages of this extraordinary tale from award-winning author Sharon Cameron.

With a great cover and an intriguing premise, Rook is book that I am really looking forward to!
