Uncovered (127): The Honest Truth
Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover? While it’s not the only factor in picking up a book, a pretty cover doesn’t hurt. Uncovered is a weekly post where I show some cover love. Hope you enjoy!
Hello and happy Friday! Fridays are the best. This week seemed to just crawl by so I am very excited that the weekend is finally upon this. This week for Uncovered, I am featuring The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart. I spotted this one online the other day and I knew I had to showcase it. This isn’t the most exciting cover but I really love the bold, graphic colors and it’s a cover that intrigues me. I don’t know why this man and his dog are separately but, I want to know. I also like how the text is placed off center. Here is the synopsis for this one:
The debut of a phenomenal new middle-grade talent.
In all the ways that matter, Mark is a normal kid. He’s got a dog named Beau and a best friend, Jessie. He likes to take photos and write haiku poems in his notebook. He dreams of climbing a mountain one day.
But in one important way, Mark is not like other kids at all. Mark is sick. The kind of sick that means hospitals. And treatments. The kind of sick some people never get better from.
So Mark runs away. He leaves home with his camera, his notebook, his dog, and a plan to reach the top of Mount Rainier–even if it’s the last thing he ever does.
The Honest Truth is a rare and extraordinary novel about big questions, small moments, and the incredible journey of the human spirit.
I really like the sound of this one even though I don’t normally read a lot of contemporary novels. What do you guys think? Would you pick this one up?
