Things I’m Loving/Looking Forward To

Hi, everyone! As I write this it is Thanksgiving (!) week. It’s been a very crazy couple of months. Unfortunately Covid cases keep going up, up, up on the U.S. so it’s a very stressful and strange time. I am really looking forward to having a few days off to try and decompress and catch up on some sleep. Wherever you are, I hope you’re staying safe and healthy (both mentally and physically). I went through a bit of a reading slump where nothing was really grabbing my attention but it’s slowly coming back. Not reading usually makes me feel guilty but I am trying to be easy on myself. I admit that I often guilty of doom scrolling late at night but I am trying to be better about that and not looking at my phone before I go to bed. I just wanted to pop in today to talk about a few things that I have been loving recently and a couple of things that I am looking forward to.

Things I’ve Been Loving

Baby Yoda in front of a body of water.

First and foremost I am thoroughly obsessed with The Mandalorian. I know I super late to the game on this one but I am always behind on TV shows. A few weeks ago I decided to finally start the series and even after all of the hype, I was not disappointed. I am already a big Star Wars fan so I was already inclined to like this. But I really had no idea what to expect and just fell in love with all of the characters and the storytelling. Of course, I love Baby Yoda (who doesn’t?) and have my own BY to keep me company now (see picture above). There’s just something about the story and the relationship between The Mando and Baby Yoda that is really compelling to me. It’s also just super entertaining and fun. I find myself putting it on when I am feeling down.

Season 2 is airing weekly now and I’ve been having fun watching the episodes each week as they are released. I know a lot of people who are used to binge watching find the delayed release annoying but I kind of like it. If forces you to take you time with each episode and gives me something to look forward to. I also like the collective viewing experience of watching in almost real time with other people. As a person who grew up without Netflix and streaming services, I remember getting together with friends to watch certain shows or having something to talk about each week with people. It’s an experience that I kind of miss.

HBO’s Watchmen is another show that I just recently watched. It’s another one that I felt was worth the hype. I somehow managed to avoid spoilers this whole time so it was a really fun, but intense watch. All of the performances were amazing and the music was fantastic. The music supervisor really did a phenomenal job picking out songs appropriate for the era but that weren’t obvious. The show also had an amazing score by Trent Reznor. Overall I thought it was well done and now I kind of want to watch Lost all over again (Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof was also the creator of Lost).

Honorable mention to The Boys which I also started watching recently.

The last super random thing I am loving right now is perfume. In the last month or so I’ve become obsessed with perfume and have been watching all kinds of YouTube videos by fragrance reviewers. Previously I had a couple of bottles of perfume but I almost always forgot to use. Now I have more than 10 bottles and am trying to learn what fragrance notes I like. It can be a bit of an expensive hobby so I am trying not to go too crazy but there’s a whole huge fragrance community out there and it’s been fun exploring it.

Things I Am Looking Forward To

Guys, have you seen the trailer and some of the sneak peeks from the new Netflix series Bridgerton yet? If you’re a romance reader, no doubt you will recognize the Bridgerton name. The super popular historical romance series by Julia Quinn is the basis for the upcoming Shonda Rhimes project for Netflix. I never thought I’d see these characters come to life this way and I am so excited! Quinn has been teasing lots of pics and behind-the-scenes tidbits from the filming of the series. The costumes look super bright and fun and the trailer promises plenty of drama. I haven’t watched a lot of Shonda Rhimes shows but I hope that she does these characters justice. If you want to know, my fave books from the series are 1, 2 and 4!

Warner Bros. Pictures just announced that Wonder Woman 1984 would be released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on Dec 25. I am sure it was a hard decision not to push the movie back until next year, but I am also quite excited about being able to see a new movie. I don’t even have HBO Max but I might get it just for this. There is also a drive in theater (an actual real one, not a pop-up) near my mom’s house so we might be able to see it there as well. I hope that the film can bring a little happiness to people this holiday season since it’s been such a weird and difficult year.

The last thing I am looking forward to is just some down time over the Christmas holidays. My office will be closed for a bit which means that I really don’t have to worry too munch about checking my work emails and I am really excited about just chilling out and reading a bunch of books.

Hope this post wasn’t too random for you guys. I would love to know some of the things that you’ve been enjoying lately or are looking forward to. Sending you all big, virtual hugs!
