Review: Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

I picked this book up about a year ago, excited to finally finish this great series, when I found myself losing interest and putting it down. I didn’t think I’d wait this long to come back to it, but I’m glad that I did. I picked up where I left off and was immediately drawn back into this world of magic, gods, and assassins. Mortal Heart gets off to a much slower start than its predecessors. I think the reason I stalled on it the first time was that it takes a lot longer to get into the meat of the plot than the first two books. Review: Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead by Sara Gran

Well known district attorney Vic Willig has disappeared – assumed to have perished in the floods that devastated much of New Orleans. However, his nephew isn’t convinced that Vic perished in the flood and calls on detective Claire DeWitt to find out what happened to his missing uncle. Following the controversial methods of Jacques Silette in his book Détection, Claire has a knack for finding out what others want hidden.My big problem with this book is the main character, Claire Dewitt. She is the (self professed) best detective in the world but it’s really unclear why she or anyone else would think so.
