Stacked (118)
Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and The Story Siren, Stacked is a weekly post where I share with you the books that I’ve bought, borrowed or received for the week.
Hello, hello. I hope you’re all having a nice Sunday so far. I’ve been having a somewhat stressful weekend. I don’t want to get into it but the short story is that my dad had to go to the ER on Friday night. He’s had some health problems in the past and he’s been in the hospital for the same reason before. Unfortunately I don’t live very close to my parents (about 5 hours by car) so I am not there with him right now. But my mom and brother are taking good care of him and he’s doing better. Any good thoughts you can send his way are appreciated though. (ETA: as of Monday, dad is out of ICU which is good. Should be in hospital for another day or two at least.)
So that’s that. You guys came here for the books, though, right? Pretty small haul this week. I know I have a lot of books but it really hit home the other day when I was searching for a particular book and I kept going through stack after stack of books. I really think I need to buy just ebooks for a while until my physical piles get a little smaller. Let’s see what I got, shall we?
For Review
Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt – Darling Beast is part of the Maiden Lane series, of which I am a big fan. I think I will save this one for when I have a whole afternoon free to read it.
Bought/Gifted
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton – Many thanks to my friend Kimberly at The Windy Pages for this one. I had been drooling over the cover and she was gracious enough to give me her ARC. I’ve heard really good things about it.
Runaways: The Complete Collection Vol 1 – I practically stalked Brian K Vaughan at Comic Con this year and vowed to read his back catalog of work. I didn’t hear about Vaughan until Y: The Last Man and somehow never got around to reading Runaways. This new collection is a large volume that contains issues #1-18.
Borrowed
She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick – Picked this one up at the library this week. Another one I’ve heard really good things about. I met Marcus at ALA this year, too, which piqued my interest in this book.
Museum of Thieves by Lian Tanner – I picked this up randomly just based on the cover. It sounds like a fantastical adventure that involves a museum. In other words – sign me up!
That’s my book haul for this week. I hope you’re all having a great weekend!
