Stacked (117): Comic-Con Gone Wild
Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and The Story Siren, Stacked is a weekly post where I share with you the books that I’ve bought, borrowed or received for the week.
Hi, everyone! I am scheduling this post pretty early since I’ll be out of town when it goes up. Luckily I did all my book stashing the week before so I have them all ready for you. I did pretty well at Comic Con this year. I tried not to go too crazy and only picked up books that I really wanted. I got a couple that I am super excited about. I also bought a pretty big stack of comics for some good prices. I blame Bookyurt for a lot of it though. She got me to go digging through boxes for things. Left to my own devices. I probably would have been too lazy. Now to find the time to read all of my new pretties. :)
Pretty Deadly Vol. 1 by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios, Jordie Bellaire – I’ve heard nothing but good things about this series and it’s described as “ongoing series that marries the magical realism of Sandman with the western brutality of Preacher.”
Rat Queens Vol. 1 by Kurtis J Wiebe and Roc Upchurch – Another big buzz title that everyone seems to love. It looks really fun and has a great cast of female characters.
Rocket Girl Vol. 1 by Brandom Montclare and Amy Reeder – What’s not to love about a time traveling teenage cop? Whenever time travel is involved, my brain hurts a little but I think this one is going to be really cool. Another series that was being talked about a lot last weekend.
East of West Vol. 1 by Jonathan Hickman by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta – This series has been on my wish list for a long time. This looks kind of like an apocalyptic western.
Thief of Thieves Vol. 1 by Robert Kirkman, Nick Spencer, Shawn Martinborough and Felix Serrano – This looks very noir/crime and I am interested in seeing some of Kirkman’s other work besides The Walking Dead.
Unbreakable by Kami Garcia
The Midnight Queen by Sylvia Izzo Hunter – Everyone who has read this (that I know) loves it. I missed it at ALA so glad to have found it at SDCC.
Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White – Kiersten White is adorable and I am excited to read her new fantasy novel.
Clockwork Dagger by Beth Cato – This looks like fun steampunk with possible romance.
Shutter by Courtney Alameda – This one looks scary.
Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – Managed to get this at the Harper panel. I actually had to trade for it but I managed to get it.
The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness (signed) – Yay! Glad I was able to catch Deb and get this signed.
I Am The Mission by Allen Zadoff (signed) – Allen Zadoff is one of the nicest and coolest people I know. He’s also a great author. I didn’t have book 2 in this series yet so I took the opportunity to buy a copy and get it signed after Allen’s panel at SDCC.
Next are the two books that I was most excited to get. You should have seen the giddiness that happened when I got these.
Evernight by Kristen Callihan – Thank you to the kind, kind souls at Hachette that saw my drooling over this and let me know that if I bought a book they would give me the galley. So glad I got this on preview night because I am pretty sure they ran out the next day. I’ve already read this and it’s soooooo good!
Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews – I have e-arc of this already but physical books are way cooler! A lovely con goer told me that she had gotten a copy of this at the HarperCollins booth the day before. My friend and I beelined over there for their scratch game to see if we could win copies. Neither of us did but we hung around and were both able to trade for it eventually. Our mantra was “I hope a guy gets it” so he’ll trade us. It worked. I just finished this one and now I want book 2 so bad! Argh the curse of reading things early. I think Kate Daniels fans will enjoy this one.
After this and ALA, I am pretty sure I won’t need to get any more books for another year. Though who’s kidding who, I’ll probably buy a book later this week. :)
