Manicure Monday (84): Blood Kin

MM-arrow-volupte-purple

Hi and welcome to Manicure Monday, a feature that combines my love of reading and nail polish. Each week I’ll showcase one of my current reads along with a matching book manicure.

Hello! Does everyone have a turkey hangover today? The four day holiday flew by so fast this year. I had tons of fun with my family and ate a whole lot. I did get a little bit of reading done. My parents aren’t that exciting so I usually find myself with a fair amount of down time. Some of it is spent sleeping but I was really trying to get some of my year end reading in, too. I’ll have a separate post with my Fall Into Books challenge results later this week.

Today’s MM features Blood Kin by M.J. Scott, I posted a review of this book last week. I actually read book 3 of this series last week, too. It’s just a really fun series and I had a hard time not reading the rest of it in one go. I saved one though so I could savor it. I may read that before the end of the year though.

I kind of made a mistake when I did this manicure. I painted the manicure on “upside down.” Usually I like my nails to read right side up when I am looking at them with my fingers bent towards me. On this one, I accidentally did the gradient going the opposite way so I had to adjust the rest of the manicure accordingly.

The base is a gradient of a light, shimmery lavender called Sinful Colors Sweet Tooth, Ultra Celebutante (dark purple) and Duri Fallen Angel (purple/black). I started from lightest to darkest beginning at the base of my nails.

Next, I added the blood splatter with CND Vinylux in Bloodline. Using a small mixing straw, I dipped the straw directly into the polish bottle and blew it onto my nails to create a splatter effect. You gotta be careful with this method or you’ll get nail polish all over your working surface. I use lots of newspapers to keep things neat.

I painted the buildings and turrets free hand with a small nail brush and dark gray acrylic paint. Then I topped the whole thing off with top coat and it was done! I liked the finished manicure a lot and wore it for a few days before I changed to my Thanksgiving manicure (ILNP Iconic). I wish the blood splatters weren’t quite so big on some of the nails but I can live with it.

Hope you guys like today’s manicure. Has anyone else read this series yet? I feel like more people should! :)
