Manicure Monday (80): Game
Hi and welcome to Manicure Monday, a feature that combines my love of reading and nail polish. Each week I’ll showcase one of my current reads along with a matching book manicure.
Hello! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was pretty chill which was nice. I still haven’t had a chance to see Gone Girl but I did see Dracula Untold during the week. I thought it was a fun and entertaining movie and it was nice to have a midweek movie date. I also did a little bit of crafting this weekend to get my Halloween costume ready. I am pretty excited about it. :) So this week’s Manicure Monday is a suitably creepy Halloween read. It’s Game by Barry Lyga, the second book in the I Hunt Killers trilogy. I read the first book in the series a couple of years ago and really liked it. But for some reason, I put off reading Game until recently. I feel kind of bad about that but it also kind of worked in my favor because the final book in the series just came out and now I won’t have to wait to read the conclusion. Sometimes procrastination can work out.
I used various shades of black, red and white for the manicure. First I started off with the “blood splatter” nails and painted on two coats of Cult Nails Fetish, a dark black with a leather-like finish. Next, I used a small mixing straw and Essie You’re Fired, a bright red creme, to create the blood splatters. While I love the look of splatter manis, they can be hard to control and I often get light headed blowing all that air. Best to just go slowly and try to blow hard so that the paint splatters nicely and not in big lumps.
For my ring finger, I wanted to make it look like the dice so I painted it a bright red with Zoya Sookie. Then, using a dotting tool and Illamasqua Scorch, I dotted on the give dots of the dice.
I forgot to get a detail picture of my thumb but I did a black and white color block pattern using Fetish and Scorch again. Added top coat and it was finished! This was a really easy manicure to do and I really liked the results.
I am also really liking the book so far. It’s just as creepy as I remember the first book being. October is running out and I need to read at least a couple of scary books, right?
