August 2020 Recap
OMG, two posts less than a month apart? Who am I right now? Haha, I don’t know but I figured I would ride the productive train and pop in to say hello and give a brief recap of what I have been up to in the last month. As usual, I cannot believe that another month has gone by. During this pandemic time seems to move at a snail’s pace but also feels like it is flying by. How is it almost the holidays already? And while, like most people, I really want 2020 to be over, part of me also isn’t super optimistic about 2021. I will try to curb my feelings of gloom and doom though and hope for the best. That said, the U.S. election is coming up in November and I urge everyone to make sure they are registered to vote and to go out and vote when it’s time. Anyway, here’s what I have been up to lately.
Reading
I picked up a few fun books last month. My library is doing curbside pickup so that’s been pretty awesome. I got both Bringing Down the Duke and Love Her or Lose Her from them. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books and am looking forward to reading the next books in both series. I also pre-ordered a signed (squee!) copy of Midnight Sun. Truthfully, I have started it but it’s slow going. I the Twilight books back in the day (well really the first 3) but it’s definitely a style of writing that you have to be in the mood for. I am a lot older than I was when the first Twilight book came out and have read probably hundreds of books since then and my tastes have definitely changed. I still love and think fondly of the series and the fandom but it isn’t something that I just want to tear through anymore. So I am taking my time with this one and letting the teenage vampire angst wash over me in small doses.
Crafting
No fun pictures for this section. I haven’t been doing a lot of knitting lately. I do it here and there but not enough to really have a lot to show for it. However, fall is coming and that’s definitely a time when I get the knitting itch a bit more. I also finally recorded an episode of my knitting podcast about a week ago, after a nearly 6 month lull. That’s what a pandemic will do to you.
Health
I’ve still been going on my daily walks around the neighborhood. There was a heat wave recently but I was able to get out as long as I went later in the day.. The days are also getting shorter which makes me sad because I love having a lot of daylight for most of the day. I love fall with its cooler weather and changing colors but I hate that it gets dark so much earlier. I will probably have to switch my walks to being in the mornings or early afternoon once it starts really get into fall and winter.
I’d like to add a cario/strength training workout back into my day. When I used to go into the office I would go to the gym at lunch most days. I’ve kind of fallen off that habit and tend to just sit at my computer through lunch which isn’t good for me. I would like to make more of an effort to work out in the middle of the day to break up the monotony and also get me up. If anyone has a good online fitness program/videos that they like, let me know in the comments below.
I’ve also been super lazy in my cooking lately. It’s just so boring cooking for one and then having to eat it for like a week. But I need to be better about it.
Other Stuff
Man, I really miss movies. I would give anything to be able to see Tenet in a theater (and feel safe doing it). I haven’t been catching up on TV shows like a lot of people are doing. Instead, I just watch Psych and The Office on a loop. I think I just need things that I know and make me feel good right now, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I have been doing my puzzles, slowly but surely. Above are a few that I finished in the month of August. I am not the fastest at them but I like having one on hand for when I have a free moment. There’s just something very satisfying about making order out of chaos and ending up with a pretty picture to boot. I’ve been pretty good lately and have not bought a lot of puzzles and am committed to working my way through my puzzle stash.
That’s kind of all I have been up to lately. I know it’s not very exciting but life isn’t very exciting at the moment. I am definitely getting a bit of pandemic fatigue and miss my friends and family a lot but I am doing the best I can. I am midway through the Netgalley challenge that I am doing with The Windy Pages that I spoke about in my last post. I’ve actually read a good amount and have written a couple of reviews. I haven’t had time to post them yet but hopefully I will get them up soon.
In the meantime, wishing you all a wonderful September. Let me know what you’ve been reading, watching, doing, whatever during this crazy time. What are you most looking forward to for fall?
