WonderCon 2019 Recap

Hi, everyone! Happy spring. Wow, this year is just flying by. As my friend would say, “con season is upon us,” and the first con of the year for me us usually WonderCon. WonderCon is like the baby brother of Comic-Con, a much more laid back version of it. It’s also in Anaheim which is closer to where I live, making it a fun and very convenient con.

This year I actually went on both Friday and Saturday. I only hit up two panels and the rest of the con was spent checking out the exhibit hall and checking out the cosplay around the convention center.

The first panel I attended was the spotlight on Joelle Jones. Jones is the writer and artist behind the creator owned series Ladykiller but has also worked on Batman and Catwoman most recently. It was a really fun discussion with Jones about her start in comics about 10 years ago and how her style has evolved since then. She also discussed her influences and why she likes blood splatter so much. :) If you haven’t checked out her work yet, definitely do. It’s really fun and I highly recommend Ladykiller (which Jones says she will be returning to).

On Saturday I went to the Scott Snyder panel. I first became familiar with Snyder with this work on American Vampire and Wytches. He’s probably most known for his work on Batman though, having written multiple storylines for the caped crusader. This was also a really great panel. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a panel with Snyder before and I was surprised by how humble and open he was about his life and career. He gave the writers and artists in the audience a lot of very encouraging advice about the creative process and teased what’s up next for him.

Up next are just a few random pics I took during the weekend.

I didn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to. It’s always a little crazy at cons and I get wrapped up in what’s going on around me. But I had a really good time and I am looking forward to Comic-Con later this summer. I can’t believe that con season is already upon us. It’s a little nuts how fast the year is going. Hope you’re all having a great year so far and I’ll be back soon.

P.S. – I just started watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix and am really enjoying it. Have you guys watched it yet?
