Uncovered (150): Madly by Amy Alward
Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover? While it’s not the only factor in picking up a book, a pretty cover doesn’t hurt. Uncovered is a (semi) weekly post where I show some cover love. Enjoy!
Yikes, it’s been quite a while since my last Uncovered post. There have been plenty of beautiful covers in the meantime and I hope to make this a more regular feature again. This past weekend I visited The Ripped Bodice with my friend Alethea. The Ripped Bodice is a romance only bookstore in L.A. and it’s pretty amazing for a romance lover like myself. I wasn’t able to take very many pics while we were there, but I definitely want to go back and hopefully do a whole post on the shop in the near future. While we were there though, Alethea picked up a beautiful book based just on the cover.
Madly by Amy Alward, is a YA fantasy novel about a princess who accidentally poisons herself with a love potion and ends up falling in love with her own reflection! The nation is called upon to help find a cure for the princess. In comes Sam, a young woman from a humble background who just might be able to cure the princess if she can handle competing with some of the most dazzling talents in the nation. The book is also blurbed by Sarah J. Maas, which made it even more appealing.
First of all, I love the color scheme of the cover. I am a big fan of pink but don’t like it when it’s used in a really cutesy way. Here, I think it goes well with the them of what a love potion might look like but the purple and blue make it look less bubblegum. I also enjoy illustration on book covers and like the mix of photography and illustration here. The illustration itself tells a story and I can see the crown, love potion, and arrows denoting that maybe real love is in the air. I also like how the book title is incorporated into the illustration.
I had not even heard of this book before seeing it at the bookstore but this cover really sold it for both of us. There was only one copy so Alethea got it but I may be borrowing it sometime soon. What do you guys think of this one? What was the last book you picked based on the cover?
