Review: Loyalty In Death by J.D. Robb

Another great installment of the Eve Dallas series. This one involves a shady anti-government organization set on bringing down the current government with violent demonstrations of chaos. They’ve chosen Eve as worthy oponent in this game and send her cryptic clues that she must piece together or thousands of lives could be lost.

It always fun to jump into the down and dirty world of Eve Dallas, lieutenant of homicide for New York City. I love watching the push and pull of her relationship with Roarke. Their interactions are always my favorite part of the book. It just never gets old. Their relationship is really the core of the series. It’s so strong but not boring, and it continues to evolve as the series goes on.

Peabody also gets a lot of page time in this installment, and we are even introduced to one of her family members. The simmering heat between her and McNab reach a boiling point in this book and it is really fun to see what happens between the two. I really do hope that it continues into the next book. While they seem I’ll matched on the surface, I quite like them as a couple. Mavis makes a brief, but memorable appearance as well and it’s just fun to see what she will do.

I also really enjoyed the overall storyline of the book. Robb ties together several seemingly unrelated cases in a very elegant way that had me guessing who the real killer was. The story was well paced and kept my interest throughout.

Reading this series is like visiting old friends. I’ve come to know them so well after 9 books but they continue to surprise me. I am still more than 30 books behind in the series, but I don’t mind because that just means I have a lot more to look forward to. If you enjoy a good murder mystery with a bit of romance and sci-fi thrown in, give the In Death series a try if you haven’t already.
