October 2018 Recap
I can’t believe that October is officially over. Fall is definitely my favorite season and October is when it usually starts to feel like fall here in sunny SoCal. The weather has definitely cooled down a bit and the days are getting shorter. I really want to bust out all of my cozy sweaters and just curl up on the couch most days. I hope you guys all had an amazing month and a fantastic Halloween. This year I dressed up for one party (as Wednesday Addams) and went out for a special event on Halloween night (more on that later). Read on to hear about what else I’ve been up to this month!
Books!
This month was a real hodge podge, reading-wise. I went to see my mom earlier in the month for a few days and, which I was there, ended up reading 3-4 books in the Mountain Masters/Dark Haven series by Cherise Sinclair. I’ve read the entire Shadowlands series already but had only dipped my toe into her other series. But over that weekend I fully dived in and caught up on that series as well. Her books are really fun but intense and are definitely more on the erotica side of romance. As you can see from the pic above, I also finished Fair Game by Patricia Briggs. Another series that I really love. Not sure why I am so behind on this one but it’s kind of nice because I have a couple more books to hold me over until the next one.
Watching
It’s October which means scary movies!
I saw the new Halloween movie which I really liked! Jamie Lee Curtis is so badass and I liked the premise of this being a direct sequel to the original. It also has a pretty strong female empowerment angle (at least in my opinion). It was scary without being too gory (which was my main complaint about the Rob Zombie reboot). It also has the amazing John Carpenter score. I swear that score is half of what’s so scary about the movie. Overall I really enjoyed it though. I even took my mom to see it (her choice) and she liked it, too.
I’ve also watched one episode of Netflix’s new Haunting of Hill House series. I like it so far but I’ve only seen one episode and can’t really weigh in.
On Halloween night I got to see something REALLY exciting.
What?? That’s right, I went to a live podcast taping of My Favorite Murder! If you haven’t heard of it yet, MFM is a true crime comedy podcast. It’s hard to explain if you’ve never listened but if you like true crime then I would definitely recommend giving it a listen. My friend A is a member of their fan club and was able to get us amazing seats.
We were so close to the stage! The show was in downtown LA at the Microsoft Theater and we had an amazing time. The show was fantastic and funny. They had some special guests like Cameron Britton (actor who plays Ed Kemper on Mindhunter). If you’re interested in listening, they’ve released the audio for the show already (episode 145). Or you can listen via the embedded widget below.
Knitting
I feel like I was a pretty bad knitter this month. I ‘ve been really busy and just haven’t had a lot of bandwidth to work on anything super complicated. I started a Honey Cowl (above) from some really old stash yarn. It’s a very easy, mindless pattern and that’s what I’ve been knitting for most of the month. It’s getting to be the time though where I should really decide if I am going to be doing any gift knitting for the holidays.
Health
I am still going to the gym pretty regularly. A few weeks ago I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold. I managed to ward it off but it triggered some mild vertigo, which was really only present when I changed my head orientation, like when laying down or getting up. That just made it kind of hard to do certain exercises. However, I think it’s actually gone away now so that’s really nice. I am actually feeling a bit under the weather as I write this so I am going to try to sleep a lot this weekend. I hate getting sick.
Looking Forward To
Stitches SoCal is coming this weekend! For non-knitters/crocheters this isn’t going to mean much but I am super excited. Stitches SoCal is basically a knitting convention that will have classes and a marketplace. They’ve never done it in SoCal before. I’ve got plans to hang out with my friends and squish a lot of yarn. I always come away from these events feeling really inspired to create new things so I am really looking forward to it. That’s about all I can think of right now. Hopefully I’ll find some other fun things to do this month.
Let me know in the comments below what you got up to in October. Did you dress up for Halloween? What’s your favorite Halloween candy? Mine is pretty much all of them. Until next time!
