Manicure Monday (75): She Is Not Invisible

Hi and welcome to Manicure Monday, a feature that combines my love of reading and nail polish. Each well I’ll showcase one of my current reads along with a matching book manicure.

Hello! I am really excited this week because next Monday is Labor Day in America, which means a long weekend for me. I will not be posting a manicure post next week because of the holiday but I’ll be back the week after with a new nail look for you. This week’s book is She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick. I had read some good reviews on this book and I read it last week for Bout of Books. Sad to say that I did not love this one.  I haven’t read any of Sedgwick’s books before so I don’t know what his writing is normally like, but I had some problems with this book. I should have a review up soon. In the meantime, let’s look at some nails!

This week’s look is a pretty loose interpretation. I have a hard time coming up with nail inspiration for photo covers sometimes. In this case there wasn’t really anything that called out to me and I ended up focusing in the two rainbows in the middle of the cover.

I originally tried to do a regular gradient with a makeup sponge but some of my shades were too sheer. The whole thing just blended into a giant, sparkly blog. So instead I tried another method where, starting at the top with the red, I used tape to block off the rest of the nail. I painted on color, removed the tape and placed it lower, then painted the next color, keeping a steady hand so that the untaped edge didn’t get too messy. This worked out way better than I thought it was going to and the resulting manicure is pretty cool looking. It takes a little while to tape each section but it really isn’t too bad and did not too long.

I used a bunch of different shades for this look. First I painted on a neutral nude (Zoya Farrah) to give my nails a nice base on which to put some bright colors. The red is Nicole by OPI OMB!. The orange, yellow, green and blue are from the Color Club Wing It collection. They came in a set and didn’t have individual names on them. The purple is OPI OPI Ink.

I know it’s not a huge tie-in to the cover but it was still inspired by it and the end result was really fun. Hope you guys liked this one.  :)
