Outlander Read-a-long

outlanderreadalong2

Hi, guys! I am very excited to tell you about the Outlander read-a-long that I will be participating in this month. I am one of the few people I know that hasn’t read Outlander yet. I hear there is time traveling, romance, and hot Scots so why haven’t I read it? This month I am going to change that and will read the book along with my friends from Books Unbound and The Reader’s Antidote!

Anyone can participate any way they want. If you just want to read along and read our discussion posts, that’s cool. If you want to post the discussions on your blog, go ahead, just make sure you link back to my blog! If you just want to comment, that’s awesome too! This read-along is hosted by Books UnboundNite Lite Book Reviews and The Reader’s Antidote!

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

  • March 1: Discuss: conclusion/wrap up of the read-along and answer the following questions:
    • How disorienting-or appealing-would it be for you to be transported back in time? How would you cope with the time change? Which era would be the most appealing for you to travel back to?
    • If you time-traveled, how much of the future from which you came would you be tempted to reveal? What might you attempt to change using your knowledge of modern times?
