Manicure Monday (70): Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

MM-arrow-volupte

Hi, everyone. Welcome to another Manicure Monday post. You might have noticed that the blog looks a little different today. I finally made the switch from Blogger to WordPress. I have to say that it hasn’t been the easiest transition. I was able to most my posts and everything alright but I am still tweaking the design and I don’t know where all of the options are on this new interface. I am sure I’ll get used to it soon but, right now, it’s not so fun. Apologies in advance if some of the old posts have odd formatting. I want to go back and fix everything but that might not be possible (at least without me going insane). You didn’t come here to hear me complain though. You came for the polish, right? This week’s Manicure Monday features Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

I was a little bit stumped about what to do with this one. Photo covers don’t always make for the best manicures. I liked how creepy this cover was though with the ominous trees and the black and white color scheme. I decided to use only black and white with shades of grey to complement this eerie cover.

First I started off with two coats of a light grey (Zoya Dove) and my three middle fingers. Next I created texture and depth by sponging over it with a darker grey (Zoya Kelly). Then using a small nail brush and black nail polish (Wet N Wild Black Creme) I painted irregularly shaped trees and branches.  I went in with black and white afterwards and added some tiny dots for additional texture.

For my pinkie and thumb I wanted to create a sort of chalkboard texture similar to the line in the cover title “Peculiar Children,” which looks like it was drawn in chalk on a board. I started with a dark grey (Zoya Kelly again) and let that dry. Then I painted the words “Miss Peregrine”” onto my nails with a small brush. As you can see, I had to squish a little to get “Peregrine” in there but I just managed it. I sealed all of my nails with a matte top coat to give it that chalkboard/vintage photo feel.

Sorry if the lighting seems a bit off in these pics. I took them later than I usually do and I also think my camera is getting old and isn’t taking pics like it used to. Hopefully you can still see the design here. This mani is more subtle than most of MM looks. I like it though I wish I could have made it a little more interesting. I am not sure how I would have done that really but I still really like this one. The book is really good so far and I am enjoying the creepiness and the writing style. It’s been on my shelf for a long time and I am happy that I am finally reading it.

What do you guys think of today’s look? Have you all read Miss Peregrine’s already?
