Fall Pilot Season

Pilot season is upon us again and I thought I’d do a little post about some of the pilots that I was able to get a sneak peak of at Comic-Con earlier this summer. Here’s a little peek at some of the shows that I am most interested in.

First we have Blindspot, a new NBC show starring Jaimie Alexander (Thor) about a woman with amnesia who is found in Times Square covered in cryptic tattoos. The tattoos end up helping the FBI into stopping a terrorist attack. This was one of the shows I was excited to see but the pilot was just OK. I think it’s always hard when the main character doesn’t know who s/he is because then the audience doesn’t really know. Joe Doe is still trying to find her footing and the show is, too. This is just a maybe for me. I am not going to go out of my way to watch it but, if it ends up on Hulu or Netflix, I might watch a few more episodes to see if it gets better. Blindspot premiers on NBC on September 21, 2015.

Next up is Containment from the CW Network. This is the show that I am most excited about. It’s about a deadly virus that is released in Atlanta and the city and government’s attempts to contain the disease and find a cure. I am a big fan of disease type shows and books (if you haven’t read The Hot Zone, you must!). I thought the pilot was intense and had a nice amount of gross disease stuff and character development to make it interesting. I really want to see where they take this one and I hope that the rest of the season is as good as the pilot. I cannot find a premiere date for show at this time.

Lucifer (Fox) is about, you guessed it, the Devil himself. Lucifer has gotten sick of Hell and has come to L.A. where he owns a decadent night club. When a friend is murdered, he uses his powers to help the police find the killer and finds that he has a taste for solving crime. This was an interesting one. I didn’t know anything about it really before going it. Lucifer is a charming and witty fellow with a lovely British accent. There’s some fun banter between him and his unbelieving female partner, who is also immune to his powers. Rachael Harris also has a supporting role on the show and I find her hilarious. I can see this being a fun, mindless series that I could pop on and watch for a good laugh. It is scheduled to premiere in 2016.

If, like me, you are a fan of The Minority Report film, you might be interested in the upcoming Fox spinoff series that takes place 10 years after the film ends. One of the twins who was originally part of the unit that helped predicts murders is still plagued with visions of death. Unable to stand by and do nothing, he moves to the city to try to make sense of his visions and help stop murders. He gets on the radar of a police detective, who is skeptical at first, but then enlists him to help her. I saw about 20 minutes of the pilot at SDCC. It was a little heavy handed but showed promise. I definitely want to watch the entire pilot episode before passing judgement. The show premieres on September 21, 2015 on Fox.

Other shows I did not get to see at Comic-Con but am excited about anwyay.

I am a fan of horror films and I think Scream Queens has the potential to be really fun and scary. It also has Jamie Lee Curtis in it which is a win! I am hoping that it’ll be campy but fun, and of course, scary. The show premiers on September 22, 2015 on Fox.

I got to see the American Horror Story: Hotel panel at Comic-Con this year, and it got me really excited about the new season. I haven’t really watched AHS since season 1 (which I really liked) and really want to catch up. This season looks really creepy and cool. I actually do find hotels a bit spooky and think that it’s a great setting for the show. Lady Gaga is going to be on as well, which you know is going to be strange and amazing. The new season premieres on October 7. 2015 on FX.

Those are the fall shows that I am most excited about. Did I miss anything? What new shows are you excited about?
