Crush Confessions with Bookyurt

It’s February, the month of love (or at least the month with a sappy love holiday in it) and we are celebrating with Crush Confessions. I’ve asked some awesome bloggers and writers to come up with a list of the boys (and girls) that make them swoon. From vampires to werewolves, jocks to Brits – we have something for everyone! So sit back, relax, and get ready to swoon.

Today’s Crush Confessions comes from Bookyurt. Bookyurt is my go-to when it comes to all things pop culture, especially if it involves film or TV. So who better to extol the virtues of the Hollywood tortured bad boy? Take it away, Bookyurt!

The guys who make beat-up look good

I don’t know what it is, but I just have a thing for boys with that look – that, I’ve been through some shit and made it through, look. That, I’ve been bruised and broken but haven’t crumbled, look. Equal parts tough and vulnerable, to me that slightly tortured look is just super, super hot – so here are some of my favorite beat-up guys from the world of film and TV:

Britt from Terriers

So you may not have heard of Terriers – it was a show that lasted one season on FX – but in a lot of ways, it was basically the dude version of Veronica Mars. And that delectable rapscallion above? That’s Britt (who may look familiar, if you watch Once Upon A Time), a criminal who straightens himself out (from full-on crooked robber to only slightly bent P.I.) all in the name of love – ’cause, as he puts it with a grin: “Love. It can mess your shit up.”

Logan from Veronica Mars

Yes, Logan may be richie rich – but with an abusive Dad, a murdered girlfriend, and a Mom who throws herself off a bridge, I think it’s fair to say the boy’s been through some shit. And it left a mark, no question – it’s there in his recklessness, his impulsiveness, but also in how he doesn’t scare off easy. So when the shit hits the fan – like when, say, Veronica gets car-jacked, or cornered by Irish mobsters – where most guys would cut and run, Logan comes in swinging, no hesitation, no questions asked. Which, by the way, makes him exactly the kind of guy Veronica needs (as the movie will prove, I’m sure :).

Bruce Wayne/Batman

So I can’t say which is my favorite iteration – but be it movies, TV or comics, Bruce Wayne is and always will be the guy who dedicates his life to the memory of his parents, who sweats and bleeds and gives up everything to become the hero who could have saved them. Now that’s what I call love.

Michael from Underworld

Survivor’s guilt? Check. Unwittingly caught up in a war between immortals, who then gets turned into a blood-thirsty monster against his will? Check. Everyone wants to kill him? Check. Yep, this poor boy can’t catch a break – but the way he’s just so unassuming, so quietly stoic through it all… No wonder Selene has such a thing for him :) (And by the way, can I just say how much I freakishly love these movies? Well, the first two, anyway – I like to pretend the other two don’t exist…)

So there you have it – four boys who make beat-up look good. Now, who did I forget?

The Bookyurt‘s mission:

To slog through the plotholes so you don’t have to.

With one foot in the world of book lovers and one in the world of Hollywood, we do this for one reason and one reason only: to find good stories. Period. Full stop. Bar none. Be they on the page or the screen, shelved as Children’s, YA, or Adult, categorized as science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, steampunk, new weird, mysteries, thrillers, non-fiction, contemporary, what have you – it doesn’t matter to us. We’re just here to give you the story.
