Review: Fiancée For Hire by Tawna Fenske

Review: Fiancée For Hire by Tawna Fenske

Ever since I read Marine for Hire (Front and Center #1) , I was hoping for a Mac and Kelli book. I was so excited to see that it was coming out that I pre-ordered it. This is big, since I don’t pre-order many books. When the book arrived, I started reading it immediately. I would have read it all night if I hadn’t had an early morning training. As it was, I stayed up too late and then felt like a kid again as I tried sneaking in chapters during the breaks and slows parts of the training. And when I did finally finish reading it, I went back and re-read all my favorite parts.

Review: Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Review: Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

My first introduction to the work of Brian K. Vaughan came from reading Runaways. It was snarky and fun and I loved it. It was my first actual comic book series. Yes, I know I was late to the party but I am here now. Isn’t that what counts?

Fortunately, when I started Runaways, I had the first eight volumes available to read. Sadly, after seven volumes, Vaughan left to work on other projects, and vol 8 was written by the amazing Joss Whedon who maintained Vaughan’s vision and voice. However, after Whedon when the voice changed with a new writer, I decided to follow Vaughan rather than the Runaways, and I have been following him ever since.

Review: Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Review: Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Recently, I have been in a reading slump. I start books and don’t finish them. I have trouble with finding a connection to characters and I wonder if I will ever finish a book again. I reached out to a friend and asked her to recommend a favorite book. We have similar taste in books, particularly in the types of hero/heroines we like. Her response – Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren, author of the Beautiful Series. As part of full disclosure, I have not read the Beautiful Series. Something about that series never appealed to me.

Liv’s Current Obsession: Why I Love Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Liv’s Current Obsession: Why I Love Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Frequently, I find myself thanking Alethea (@frootjoos) over at Read Now, Sleep Later for introducing me to new television series.  Two of my favorites are Murdoch Mysteries from Canada and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries from Australia.  I seriously think she has everyone watching these. Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries takes place in Melbourne in the later 1920’s, one of my favorite time periods.  It features actress, Essie Davis as the Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher, who fights injustice and solves murders with the help of a great cast of characters, a gold-plated pistol, and a dagger hidden under her skirt.  Shouldn’t all… Read more »

Happy Book Release Day!

Happy Book Release Day!

New books are always coming out, and for the most part, I do not pre-order books.  However, there are always a few that are either next up in a series and a must have or highly anticipated and I am compelled to pre-order them.  As I think about it, I am pretty sure I have never had a day with four pre-orders.  I thought I would give everyone a sneak-peek at what I am looking forward to reading.  Happy Book Birthdays to all of the authors!!! Here are some of the books I have been eagerly looking forward to coming… Read more »
